So, this post is about what I have been up to for the last week: another unlikely craft project.
I mentioned to my son my intent to finish a quilt I started a decade ago. (With a few days of work, it would totally be done. A few hours if I actually used my sewing machine.) I may have also mentioned my desire to make a stuffie of my own personal cartoon character (everyone should have one), Mr. Ugly-Man. For more on him, click here: https://imnotstalkingyou.com/2012/02/08/mr-ugly-man/ My son latched on to that and begged me for one. I explained then I would have to make two, one for me and one for him. He said he wanted the first one. So, I got to work.

Look how happy M is with is!
This was one of the few times that I didn’t have beginner’s luck, so I was more than happy to hand over my first creation to my son. I know the basics of making a stuffed animal. Sew it inside out, then flip it and stuff it. But somehow, when I sewed the hands and legs inside out, when I flipped it, the inside was outside. I am still trying to wrap my brain about that one, like the Matrix. But I guess the only thing that matters is I figured out how to prevent it on future Uglys.

Look how happy I am with mine!
This may seem silly, but I fucking love stuffed animals, always have, always will. The idea of making my own just seemed irresistible. I wanted one to sleep with. I know I am not the best sewer (not where the Ninja Turtles live) in the world and I was only using scrap material, but I am happy with how they turned out.

I added a vest to mine so it would be soft & furry. The display model has special legs. The first one was not available for this photo shoot.
So making one for my son and one for me, turned into needing another to display on my book table. He is the logo for my publishing company, after all. Not to be left out, then my husband wanted one. I also wanted to make a fifth one as an alien, because sometimes Mr. Ugly-Man has antennae, but that many just seemed too daunting. I have finished my third one today. Need to get started on the fourth. And then maybe I can get to that quilt after all.
Or, well, maybe I will finish it in another ten years.

Now I can do super-fun things like this!
