The moral of the kids movie “Monster House”?

Never rescue a circus freak & bring them home.

What I Learned This Week – 12/2/12

This week learned that the Fearless books are being re-released in new editions.

I saw these at Walmart and left a big puddle of drool on the floor. The new covers are hauntingly cool, although I hate change, so I will always like the first generation of covers the best.

I almost bought them for the sake of having them and supporting the series, even though I already own them all. What stopped me was the typeface. In the original editions of the series, there were no actual chapters, just a typeface change that signaled a character, location, or time shift. This was AWESOME!

In the new books, they have converted that unique typeface, and now the only thing that sets it apart from the rest of the page is that it is bold. Bold? How lame.

But sooo excited to see these re-released, although they might feel a little dated to new teen readers.

I severely hope that this means a movie is on the horizon.

Remember, I already have the soundtrack selected;)

What I Learned This Week – 11/25/12

This week I learned that Breaking Dawn-Part 2 is a good movie. I got to go with my asbestos friend (click on new page “People of Interest” for more on her) on Monday night. I liked it. And I now know why people search the Internet for “breaking dawn carlisle fight”. Although they are not reaching the answers they seek on my blog. And that is all I will say about that, cuz I don’t want to be accused of giving away spoilers. And, dear readers, that being the fourth Twilight post this month, is probably the last time I will talk about Twilight for a little while.

I also learned that preparing for parties stresses me out. More on that on Tuesday.

If you are all still eating Thanksgiving leftovers, it is now time to freeze them or throw them out:)

What I Learned This Week – 11/11/2012

This week I learned that General Mills, owner of both Totino’s and Jeno’s frozen pizzas, has started making Jeno’s pizzas smaller.

WTF!

Note the difference in box size and weight. Blasphemes. (Note: While it looks as thought the boxes aren’t lined up, I assure you that they were and this is an illusion of the camera.)

Totino’s and Jeno’s used to be the same size and pretty similar in taste. I always preferred Jeno, maybe just because the parent company treated him like Totino’s less popular little brother. That, and I used to be able to buy Jeno with Canadian Bacon topping. But then grocer’s in my area stopped stocking it.

But this has gone WAY TOO FAR!

I haven’t drafted my complaint letter to General Mills yet, but it is on my to-do list. I don’t know how they will respond, but I can guess some reasons why they would have shrunk my Jeno’s pizza.

1. Now Jeno’s and Totino’s have brand differentiation at a glance.

2. This solves the sticky issue of high trans fat and sodium. Just make the portion smaller!

I am guessing the old Jeno’s pizza (using cheese as the sample pizza) was probably close to the 9.8oz weight that Totino’s still is sporting. The new Jeno’s pizza is 5 oz. That is almost 50% less than it used to be. Totino’s still claims to be 2 servings. Now Jeno’s claims it is “Pizza for One”. (I’m sorry, but I always ate the old Jeno’s frozen pizza as one serving.)

Totino’s Nutrition Facts (from box)

Serving Size: 1/2 pizza

Servings Per Container: 2

Total Fat: 25%*

Saturated Fat: 25%

Sodium: 25%

* All % Daily Value based on a 2,000 calorie diet.

Jeno’s Nutrition Facts (Unavailable*)

*Unavailable because I ate the sample pizza (sorry) and the General Mills website only lists nutrition facts for a cheese pizza at 6.9oz size (Man, how long have they been downsizing their pizza’s on me AND raising the price?)

General Mills, shame on you for denying me my Jeno that I have been faithful to for all these years. He was my stand-by dinner on a non-payday Friday night when I was too exhausted to do anything but stay awake for 18 minutes and then eat. (Pay-day Fridays? Why, fast food, of course!)

What is this world coming to, when a girl can’t count on her frozen pizza to remain unchanged?

On a more serious note, THANK YOU to all the veterans who have served our country on this Veterans Day, including my dad.

Random Fact: Jeno Paulucci, who created the Jeno’s brand and pizza rolls, died with a $100 million estate.  There is a lot of money to be made in frozen pizza.

What I Learned This Week – 11/4/2012

This week I learned that while wearing a wig for Halloween can pretty significantly change your appearance, it is not a pleasant experience. I wore a long blonde wig. My wig would block my vision when I bent down or if the wind blew. The hair was so long, that I had trouble putting my jacket on and sitting against the back of the car seat, because it would get caught.

Wearing that long hair for 5 hours made me realize why chicks like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus cut all their long hair off and go a little crazy. They get drunk from the freedom! And all that weight not pulling down on their brain!

Crunchtables Pretzel Coated Dill Pickle Crisps

I discovered this a few weeks ago, but still a worthy side note. You no longer have to go to a restaurant to enjoy the taste sensation that is fried pickles! I found Crunchtables Pretzel Coated Dill Pickle Crisps in the frozen vegetable section at Walmart. I make them in the oven, so they are actually more like “baked pickles”, but they are ready in 11 minutes and oh so good!

After my family consumed our third box of them in two weeks time, my husband asked me how much they cost. I told him I had never looked. We agreed that it didn’t matter, they are worth it!
