Whalers on The Moon

Posted on

We are very fond of Futurama at our house. I decided it just wasn’t right that I hadn’t shared this little ditty on the blog yet. So, here is the song “Whalers on The Moon from the second episode of Futurama, titled “The Series Has Landed”. Fry is super excited to visit the moon for the first time, only to discover in the year 3000 that it has been turned into “Luna Park”, a poor-man’s version of Disneyland. The song is sung on a boat ride that is supposed to be a rip off of the “It’s a Small World” ride at Disney.

My first book, The Wind Could Blow a Bug is NOW AVAILABLE!

The One with Sanrio Puroland

I am not a brave person by nature. I have to REALLY want something to leave my comfort zone.

I hate driving in cities. I only drove to downtown Ann Arbor by myself when I was at the height of my Kid Rock obsession and their was a DVD that I just had to buy. (By the way, that particular DVD was not licensed by him and SOOO not worth it.) I only drove in Downtown Detroit by myself when I wanted to go to Wordcamp 2012. (Interesting, but not really applicable to me:-( )

I only volunteered in a presidential campaign, calling people and going door to door, when I was obsessed the candidate. Once my obsession waned, it was almost impossible for me to function in such an environment.

I only published my book because it refused to remain unpublished any longer.

I do like to travel. But to drive anywhere in the car takes forever. Most of your vacation days are eaten up on the road, only seeing asphalt and experiencing rest stop restrooms. To get across the country fast, one can fly. But the only two times I have flown for travel in my life, (both times to Arizona), I found myself homesick shortly after arrival.

I would REALLY love to travel to Las Vegas and Hawaii someday. I would love to see all of the 50 states, actually. Maybe a lil’ Canada. But I would want to stick to places that speak English. That allows for London. And I took a lot of French in school. So I might be able to go to Paris on the same trip, if I left myself to the mercy of a tour group.  After four and a half years of taking French in school, I don’t remember any of it. Except the swear words.

My husband would like to travel all over the world. But that probably is not for me. Although I recently discovered an attraction that could have me changing my mind.

Some people love to go to Walt Disney World or Disneyland and be surrounded by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, the princesses, etc. I don’t have an affection for many Disney characters, except for Stitch and Boo. I think I would just find it overwhelming.

But there is a place that would overwhelm my senses with over-licensed characters that I do have a deep affection for:

Sanrio Puroland, located in Tama New Town, Tokyo, Japan

It is an indoor theme-parked, dedicated to all things Sanrio, who’s most famous universe-wide character is Hello Kitty.

It would be awesome to see characters such as Hello Kitty, Badtz Maru, Landry, and Kerroppi walking around among the visitors. But can you even begin to imagine the gift shop?!

Hmmm…Maybe the best way to resolve this whole travel oversees issue is for Sanrio to build a Puroland here in the United States! Afterall, they have a Disneyland in Tokyo. Stranger things have happened.

What I Learned This Week – 5/12/13

Posted on

This week I learned that the Disney “classic” Peter Pan is really rather sexist. It premiered in 1953. Had it come out after women’s liberation, it would probably be written differently.

Tinkerbell is portrayed as a female with a hot-temper and a large ass. Wendy is treated badly by everyone, including Tinkerbell. Wendy is expected to “mother” her own siblings, and then the lost boys and Peter Pan as well. If a flying boy comes to my window and asks me to come be his mother–I would quickly decline!

I also learned this week that you can buy pre-made Puppy Chow! You know, Puppy Chow for humans…

It is a confection made with Chex cereal, melted chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. I can’t make a batch because I will totally eat the whole thing myself.

But while at Family Video this week, I found a bag of it ready-made, under the name “flixMix“.

It was sooo good! It was rice cereal drenched in peanut butter and chocolate, just like how you would make it at home. Every piece was flavorful and worth the calories in every bite.

My family devoured that bag instantly. Being at Meijer a few days later, I looked for the same brand there, but could not find it. I did find Chex Mix brand Muddy Buddies. Seemed to be the same thing, so I gave it a try.

Muddy Buddies were NOT the same. They were made with corn cereal. (C’mon Chex! You have all your various flavors at your disposal and you pick CORN?!) The strong corn taste, combined with a very inferiorly light coating of chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar, made the Chex Mix brand ones not worth the effort to chew them.

Here is a comparison of the two products:

FYI–I can’t resist mentioning that I CANNOT WAIT for the season finale of Once Upon a Time tonight on ABC. And I really hope we see what has become of Neal (There is NO FRICKIN’ WAY he is dead!). And hopefully I will have a longer post about actor Michael Raymond-James on here next week.

What I Learned This Week – 9/9/12

I learned this week that the power of positive thinking does in fact manifest great things.

My fellow blogger LazyHippieMama this week manifested herself a trip to Disney World. She simply asked clearly for what she wanted and ye shall receive!

This week I stumbled and bumbled and begged the universe for my son’s urologist to give us a good report. It wasn’t a glowing report. But he also didn’t say anything was wrong either. (Which, as a mother, leaves me a little in limbo.) He said the portable ultrasound my son had a month ago was good enough to see that his kidney was still large (bad), but not dilated (good), and that it could take several years for it to return to a more normal size (as it has been enlarged since the womb). He said we should come back in November for a regular ultrasound, just to keep an eye on things.

My son at the McDonald’s Play Place, about an hour after the doctor gave us a good review.

This week I also became the proud owner of a new modem, then in turn, a new router. But, maybe this was manifested too. After all, I never doubted that we would have Internet back soon. OK, so I didn’t doubt…much.

Disney’s Next Hit Movie: “Sister From Another Mother” starring Ashton Kutcher

Posted on

Who’s your Daddy?

I had a dream about an Ashton Kutcher movie. In the movie, he had knocked up two chicks within a year. He saw both the girls and their mothers only briefly now and then. The one mom and daughter were bitchy. The second mom and daughter were nice. They both started putting their daughters in beauty pageants. Ashton would go and cheer them both on. They are like six and seven years old. Then the good mom gets sick, so Ashton has to take over as the pageant mother. At first the other mom and daughter just laugh at Ashton and the good daughter. But then they feel sorry for them and help them out, learning to not be so bitchy. I figure Disney could make it. It would remind people of The Parent Trap.

My husband wanted to know what I would call it. I would call it “Sister From Another Mother”. Then you could have a sequel without Ashton called “Sister From Another Mother: Summer Camp”. Then you could have the straight-to-DVD “Sister From Another Mother: School Dance”.
